She attends the after-school program and is excited about the progress she is making. When time permits, Mary can be found having fun and dancing with her friends. Life is challenging for Mary and her family since her mom passed away and her dad finds it difficult to get work. 

Sandra lives in the Western Region of Ghana in a coastal community. She lives with her dad, mom, and five siblings. Sandra enjoys learning and singing with her friends. She attends the POP After-School Program and is steadily making progress in her reading, and is very excited about that.

Kelly lives in a coastal community in the Western Region in Ghana. He lives with his mom, dad, and five siblings. He enjoys playing football with his friends any chance he can get. Kelly is in class four, and his favorite subject in school is English. He is happy with the progress he is making in his reading in the after-school program. Life is challenging in his family due to the number of children and economic hardships.

Racheal lives in a coastal community with her parents and two siblings in the Western Region in Ghana. Racheal is in class six, and science is her favorite subject. She enjoys playing volleyball with her friends. Racheal attends the Pockets of Promise After-School Program and is excited about her improvement in her reading and spelling.

Gifty lives in a coastal area in the Western Region in Ghana. She lives with her parents and two siblings. Her dad is a carpenter, and her mom is a fishmonger. Gifty enjoys attending school and the Pockets of Promise After-School Program. She is in JHS 2. Her favorite subject is mathematics, and she is delighted with her progress in her reading since attending the after-school program.

Blessing lives in a coastal community in the Western Region of Ghana with her mom, stepdad, and two siblings. The community is poverty-ridden and lacks all sanitary facilities. Blessing is in class 1 and recently started attending the Pockets of Promise After-School Program. She is eager to learn and move forward in her journey to literacy. 

Vida lives within the Western Region of Ghana with her grandmother and grandfather. Vida was excited to start school this year and begin her attendance at the pockets of promise program. Not only is Vida a student of POP, but she has been a very active helper within the program and takes the initiative when she sees something that needs to be completed or simply wants to help However, life has not been so easy for Vida as she often misses classes to care for duties at home.

John lives within the seafaring community in Ghana’s Western Region with his parents and five siblings. He is in class 3 and is advancing his education level with the Pockets of Promise after-school program. Over the past few years, life has become more complex than ever before, relying almost entirely on the catch of the day. A decrease in daily hauls from the ocean has had a detrimental impact on John’s family income and nutritional needs.
